Vowel Town
We have also been reviewing the screech guides we have learned about: "defender c" at the end of a word, choosing C or K for the beginning sounds, sending "what's your name e" to the end of the word, and working with qu.
Writing: We published our first piece of writing on our special treasures. The students revised and edited their writing and then worked on recopying it neatly. We have also been reviewing nouns, verbs and writing with details.
Reading: We have been learning how good readers use their schema to make connections between what they know and what they are reading. We started off practicing making text to self connections and text to text connections. Next week we will practice making text to world connections.
Math: We have been learning strategies to help us add and subtract fluently. The class is getting really good at adding fluently, but we still have some work to do on subtraction. Please continue to practice the math fact homework, and to encourage your child to use the resources on our addition and subtraction page to practice in fun ways. This week we focused on related addition and subtraction facts including fact families. Students even made fact family haunted houses! After fluency within 10 we will be moving on to addition and subtraction within 20.
To end our week we had some fun playing indoor recess and enjoying our awesome fall party. Thank you to Mrs. Fields for planning a great party and thank you to the party helpers that came and helped or sent in goodies for us to enjoy.
