Yesterday was a great day, but kind of sad too. We got to celebrate Ms. B and the amazing job she has done as student teacher. Thank you to all of our parents who donated items to her teacher's kit! She was overwhelmed and very appreciative. The students showered her with cards, pictures and lots of hugs today. We also celebrated by watching one of our new favorites, Frozen and had some frozen ice cream treats for Ms. B's going away party. We will all truly miss her but hope to see her around as she plans to sub in our building this spring.

Over the last couple of weeks we have been reading a series of Eric Carl books. We learned that Eric Carl is a very talented writer the mostly writes about animals or nature. He is very descriptive and brings his stories to life for his readers. We have been working on comparing some of his characters and we have been writing our own animal stories this past week. Like Eric Carl, our first graders are very creative and descriptive in their writing as well. To top it all off, we went to see an amazing black light puppet show today at the Folly Theater. Afterwards, the puppeteers came out and showed us how they made the animals look so real. Spring always tends to be a busy time of year in the Farrell family. We have several birthday parties annually and it never fails we usually have a couple of baby showers, weddings and graduations to throw in there too. Spring always seems to be a busy time of year at school too. Over the next couple of months we have several things going on at TC and I don't want you to miss out. Please add these dates to your calendar: April 12th- TC Yard Sale April 15th- Field trip to the Folly and Ms. B's last day April 16th- Grandparents Breakfast for those that already RSVP-ed April 21st- Carnival Basket Items due April 25th- TC Carnival This week in math, we finished up a unit on place value and we will be moving into adding and subtracting to 100. During small group rotations, students who have not yet shown mastery in their understanding of place value or in their ability to add and subtract within 20 will continue to work on those skills with me, while the other students move on. Please utilize the resources on our class website to help your child make progress toward their learning goals. Place Value Page Adding and Subtracting within 100 Check out our students as the work on their math learning targets during math rotations: This week in writing, students learned how to write with voice. We learned that storytellers use voice to SHOW how they feel rather than TELL how they feel. Someones an author can use voice are by using descriptive writing, writing the way they speak, including their personality, and using dialogue. We used the book, I Feel Silly to see how author Jamie Lee Curtis describes different feelings and we used the book, Birthday Zoo to learn all the different ways to introduce dialogue.
