Our class has been working on understanding and applying related addition and subtraction strategies. We are learning that if we know the addition fact, we also know the turn around addition fact and the two related subtraction problems. This is a helpful strategy especially when memorizing our facts to 10. In order to have some fun and practice applying this strategy, students created and decorated Haunted House Fact Families! Here are just a few examples of some of the scary haunted houses that were created.
Today we got to gather with our community classes and work on making apple critters. After we colored them and cut them out, many friends added a setting and some even wrote a little story to go with it. It was great fun meeting working with students in other grades.
This week and last we have been working on writing costume riddles. We added lots of adjectives to make our clues more descriptive. Then we each found an image that we wanted to share with the class that demonstrates our Halloween costume. Later on, we will read each person's clues and reveal the costumes to the class. Check out our class padlet!
The past couple of weeks we have been learning different addition and subtraction strategies to help us solve math problems mentally. This past week we worked on learning our doubles to help us add and subtract more fluently. We recorded a little rap song for you all to enjoy!
