We have also been learning some new screech guides. We learned that y makes many different sounds. It says /y/ at the beginning of a word and /ie/ at the end of a short word. We did a lot of practice with these two spellings. We also learned that it can say /i/ in the middle of a word and /ee/ at the end of a long word, but we didn't focus as much on those spellings yet. This week we learned that C can make two sounds: /c/ and /s/. We learned that C makes the /s/ sound when the C is followed by an E, I, or Y. If it is followed by any other letter it says /k/.
We have been reading stories and describing the inside traits of characters (sad, honest, brave...) and proving how we know that. We also learned how to describe the setting by telling when and where the story take place and what it is like/would be like.
This week we are learning how to retell the story by telling what happens at the beginning, middle and end of the story. We will continue practicing this skill orally and in written form.
We have learned how to add and subtract 10 from a number, how to add doubles and near doubles, how to use related addition and fact families and how to add 3 numbers. Next week we will work on adding and subtracting within 20 generally. We will be reviewing these strategies and helping students bring it all together.
We have been learning that informational text are true and contain facts. We learned how to introduce the topic, write 3 facts and a conclusion sentence. Students started off this week choosing a topic of their choice and writing a topic sentence, 3 facts and a conclusion. Then, we even practiced making a google slide presentation with 3 facts about Veteran's. We are really working on using only facts and no feeling sentences or opinions.
