This week in math we have moved on to place value. Our learning target is "I can use my understanding of place value to compare 2 digit numbers." Students need to know how to make groups of tens and ones to easily count. They need to know the value of each digit (in the # 38 the 3 is worth 30 or 3 tens and the 8 is worth 8 or 8 ones) and then they need to be able to compare 2 digit numbers and explain their thinking. The students work in small groups and rotate through stations ( meet with teacher, play a math game, computer math game, and goal binder) in order to practice place value in a variety of ways. Please use the following link below to practice some of these skills from our website. We will continue to have review Fridays where students can practice past learning targets such as working with equations and solving story problems.
Place Value Symbaloo
Students will soon be finishing up their U.S. symbols research informational writing. They are so excited to publish them on their fancy symbol shaped paper and we will be digitally publishing next week using a couple of cool apps to make our research come to life. This week students also learned about multi-syllable word endings tion and ture and they are doing great!
