During our Pathways to reading time we have been learning some new screech rules. Last week we learned that C makes 2 sounds (/c/ and /s/). We learned that C makes the /s/ sound when an e, i or y comes after it. Math: We have been working on adding and subtracting with in 20 and adding 3 numbers. Are class has done very well on this. Now we are learning how to "work with equations". When working with equations we should be able to tell if an equation is true or false (3+7 = 13-3 is True) and we should be able to fill in a missing number in a 3 part equation. (3 + ___ = 7 or ___ - 8 = 3) Reading: Over the last several weeks we have been learning how to retell stories using story elements and details from the text. Students have been listening to stories and using their retelling book marks to write about the beginning middle and end or to verbally retell the beginning, middle and end of the story. You can also practice this skill at home after reading a story or watching a movie. Students should be able to describe the main character and the setting of the story as well. Happy Retelling:) Dr. Driskill visited us and read us a story about Santa's Elf. The elf will be visiting each classroom. We can't wait to host the elf in our class! Science: In science we learned how light and sound can be used to communicate. We conducted an experimented with light to see what types of objects light could pass through. We also had a blast using the Maker Space room to create our own instruments. In small groups students shared how their instrument makes sound (what part vibrates) and how they could use it to communicate. They had a blast and they were all so creative!!!! Before Thanksgiving we met with some 2nd and 3rd graders to make a Thanksgiving turkey glyph! The kids worked as a team to problem solve when making their glyphs. They had a great time and made awesome turkeys!
